Outdoor Classroom

Our outdoor classroom is beautiful, thriving, and verdant. We have chickens the children hatched themselves that they now like to take turns feeding. We have fruit trees, a strawberry patch, and several flower, vegetable, and herb beds that the children prune, water, and care for regularly. Amber Varrichio is our resident horticulturist and loves spending time in nature teaching botany to her students. She invites you to come by to smell the heavenly blooms, sample the juicy produce, soak up the fresh air and sunshine, and of course, hang out with the animals!

This year the students will be harvesting sunflower seeds and fresh lavender, weeding and cultivating the butterfly and herb gardens, discussing the life cycle of flowers and the use of different plants, learning about the life cycle and the care of the chickens, planting new plants, discussing the origin of chocolate, tea and coffee (with chocolate tasting, of course!), planting an heirloom strawberry apple tree and an heirloom cinnamon apple tree, planting and mulching a vegetable garden, and learning how to take care of spring bulbs and baby chicks!
