Physical Education 

Exercise is essential to physical and mental health for all students. Students will develop social skills such as cooperation and leadership.Under the direction of our physical education instructor, students will learn the fundamentals of many major sports such as volleyball, tennis, soccer, flag football, and basketball. Fundamental skills in the following areas are essential to our core athletic program: coordination through conditioning, team building, strategies, and movement concepts.

 

National Standards for Physical Education

Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health.  The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.

Each year, students in grades 1-8 will participate in fitness testing.  Fitness will be measured using four assessments.  They include:  1) running for an specific length of time (cardio fitness), completing 2) sit-ups and 3) body lifts (muscular fitness) and 4) static stretching (flexiblity.)  Students will receive a fitness grade each term, which is a result of student performance on these tests as compared to an age-appropriate standard.
