About Us
    Faculty and Staff

    Through the years, Foothills Montessori School has focused on developing an incredible faculty. We have a low student-to-teacher ratio of 10:1 and a strong history of staff and student retention, leading to long-term personal and professional relationships. Our teachers are highly qualified, experienced, and are deeply committed to our school and its mission. Each of our head teachers holds a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree, as well as a diploma from an accredited Montessori training program.

    A Montessori training program is typically 14-18 months of intensive study, including a year-long internship under a master teacher. Our lead teachers have refined their teaching methods and their classroom environments with great care and many serve as mentors and teacher educators throughout the country. Our staff is guided by our Head of School and Founder, and supported by our highly dedicated administrative staff.

    Leanne Jorgensen
    Head of School

    Leanne founded FMS in her home as a primary program for her youngest daughter 14 years ago. As the school has grown, Leanne's role has evolved. She holds an MA in education, a BA in English literature, is Montessori certified for ages 3-6, and is state licensed Kindergarten-8th grade. Leanne has 17 years of  teaching experience and is excited to see the school grow to what it is today.

     


    Karen Kolb
    Administrator

    Karen is from Reading, PA and came to our school as a parent volunteer. She started working for us officially 9 years ago. Karen holds a BA in Accounting and an MBA in Management. Her son currently attends our Middle School program.

       

    Kim Gallagher
    Events and Fundraising Coordinator

    Kim started out as our PTO President, a title she held for three years. She has also been volunteering wherever she's needed for several years. A proud member of the FMS “founding family,” her two daughters began attending FMS in 2000. Kim is originally from Maine and attended college at Georgia Southern University and the University of North Florida. Her family moved to Henderson in 1996. We are thrilled to have her on staff!

         

    Denise Crosby
    Curriculum Coordinator

    Denise recently moved here from Michigan, where she was the assistant principal of a Montessori charter school. We are privileged to have her on our staff! She holds a BA in education and a BA in reading therapy. She is AMS Montessori certified for 2½-12 year olds. She has been teaching since 1976, and has taught Montessori with all ages from toddlers to junior high students. She has also taught math and music and is a master   reading therapist. Her hobbies are going to the movies, reading, music, and spending time with her 5 children and 3 granddaughters.

       

    Angela Drew
    Marketing Director/Human Resources

    Angela graduated with a BA in fine arts from the Corcoran School of Art in Washington , D.C. This is her 5th year at Foothills Montessori School. Before coming to FMS she taught Art at the Brentwood Montessori Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. She has worked in Public Programming for both the Maryland Museum of African Art and Walters Art Gallery. In addition, she worked with a team to develop multi-cultural,  environmental education, and awareness-building programs at the World Resources Institute. In recent years, she has worked as a freelance artist and private art instructor. She has 2 children, a son and a daughter, who attend FMS. She loves to paint and hike with them every chance she gets.               


    Janet Catalano
    Receptionist
    As one of our lovely receptionists, Janet shares the front desk with Katie. She has been at FMS for 4 years now. She recently retired from the Riviera Hotel after 24 years as Vice President of Leisure Sales. Immediately after her retirement from the Riviera, she lived in the Canary Islands for almost two years working as a missionary, where she taught in Spanish. She loves to practice her español so if you know Spanish, feel free to speak it with her when you come into the front office! She is the proud grandmother of 10.

           
                       

    Katie Weddell
    Receptionist

    This is Katie’s 4th year working at FMS, although she has been a part of the FMS family for the past 7 years. Currently, she is working at the front desk and learning that this job requires wearing many hats (receptionist, nurse, lunch lady….just to name a few). In the past here at FMS she has served as PTO Vice President and Treasurer and has volunteered in the classrooms and on various committees. With her 3  daughters attending, she is always around. In her previous life (before children), she was a registered nurse at Sunrise Children's Hospital for 10 years. She holds a BS in nursing.
